Infotainment System
When: 2015
For: Qualcomm
Role: Infotainment System UX & UI
Opportunity
Work with the Automotive Group and UX team members to design a touchscreen infotainment system to showcase Qualcomm’s technologies for improved in-car personalization and connectivity.
Scion tC with custom infotainment system.
Challenge
Create an infotainment experience that looks real and could be implemented for cars in production. The infotainment system needed to be safe for the driver and passengers while on the go.
Solution
The infotainment experience utilizes broad gesture interactions, like full-screen swipes and oversize touch targets to make it more forgiving to control while on the go. I used large typography with high-contrast to make the interface legible for driver and passengers. Large graphics, like the oversized launcher icons in the app flow menu and oversized profile pics in the contacts app allow for easy recognition and a safer driving experience.

Outcome
The Scion tC demo car premiered at Innovation Day in Toyota’s Los Angeles headquarters. The demo was very well received and helped pave the wave for new B2B partnerships while cementing Qualcomm’s footprint in the automotive sector. This demo also helped the UX team become a critical department for all of Qualcomm’s future automotive initiatives.
